Artist Statement

I started painting less than two years ago. I never painted before, though all my life I wanted to. I am a fiber artist for almost thirty years. I created many contemporary style wall-hangings and bed quilts. I sew countless bags of different sorts. They always had an artistic touch, and I got excitement from the course of the design and its conception.

My paintings are decorative and naive, the bold images outlined in black contours. I love graceful lines, round curves, straight rows and sharp points. I am fond of vibrant colors; all the colors are my friends. I am striving to achieve harmony and balance in my forms through simplicity. My images are drawn from some inner source I fail to explain. Often they are sweet and lovely, humorous even, other times they are powerful and potent, but they are always peaceful and pleasing.

I create my paintings with acrylics on stretched canvas. I had no formal art training. I am self-taught and I enjoy the learning process.

I derive great joy from putting my ideas on canvas, from handling the paint and the brushes, from the solitude hours of the day, and the quiet times at night, when the creativity flows and the muses whisper.

I have come to appreciate a less thought of aspect of the works of great and famous artists through my own experience, namely that making art besides of being jubilant is also a lot of work, which too I embrace gladly.
